Join us for the premiere of the 2025 documentary film by Zac Colah, South Asia Bound: The Cost of State Nationalism. Through the voices of Salima Hashmi, Taimur Rahman, Aasim Sajjad Akhtar, Furrukh Khan, and Zac Colah, the film brings archaic state narratives into the spotlight.
The film explores the construction and consequences of exclusionary national identities in India and Pakistan. These identities were shaped in the aftermath of a painful struggle for independence and a violent partition. But still today, these identities are reinforced by an unaccountable political elite, whose narrow vision limits possibilities for a more inclusive future. Meanwhile, millions of people across South Asia continue to be denied basic human rights.
After the film, Zac Colah and Beena Sarwar, co-founder of the Southasia Peace Action Network, will have a brief fireside chat and an opportunity for audience questions.
